Anti-extortion chief must demonstrate urgency in fight against blackmailers or step down, B.C. Premier says

British Columbia Premier David Eby has warned the head of a police anti-extortion task force to step aside if he cannot demonstrate “a sense of urgency” in the fight against blackmailers who have been shooting up homes and businesses in the Lower Mainland.
Eby’s remarks about RCMP Assistant Commissioner John Brewer came a day after Brewer repeatedly declined to characterize the wave of extortion-related shootings as a crisis.

When Beau Harper met 108-year-old Joan Fuller at last year’s Remembrance Day service in Mount Hope, Ont., he knew he was witnessing something rare.
“She was 107 years old at the time and still living independently,” Harper told the National Post on Thursday.
Harper, a teacher in Peterborough and founder of Soldier Search, introduced himself and asked Fuller and her family whether she would consider being interviewed for his organization, which preserves the histories of Canadian veterans. She agreed.
