Melbourne and Toronto are similar in many ways.
Both began their modern lives as distant outposts of the British Empire and grew into vibrant, prosperous cities. Both have been enriched by waves of immigration from first Europe, then Asia. Both boast thriving downtowns with thickets of glass towers. Both are national hubs for finance and the arts. And both are home to roughly a fifth of the national population, when their hinterlands are factored in.

Residents are reminded the deadline for interim property tax payments and Vacant Unit Tax (VUT) declarations is just one month away – Thursday, March 19.
This reminder is to help residents avoid additional charges on their property tax bills. For late payment on the interim property tax, a penalty charge of 1.25 per cent is added on the day following the March 19 due date, and it will be subsequently added to the outstanding amount on the first day of each month. Late VUT declarations are subject to a $250 late fee.
