Canada’s largest public sector union is accusing the Carney government of hacking away at federal public services, warning that the latest plan to cut 28,000 jobs will have a catastrophic impact on the services that Canadians rely on. We dig deeper with Richard Forbes, a Principal Economist with SIGNAL49. Shifting gears to local news, hundreds of transit riders were left in limbo during Tuesday’s evening commute, as a train had to make an unplanned stop near Pimisi Station due to a mechanical issue. In fact, some of those commuters were left hanging for over an hour. We speak to one of those poor souls, Robyn Farrow, in Hour 2. Plus, Amazon has confirmed that it will be slashing 16,000 jobs. This comes hours after an accidental email was sent to staff members, which pointed to a new round of global redundancies. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent has more on that.

The town of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., is in mourning after eight people were killed in a mass shooting at a school and nearby residence.

RCMP on Wednesday identified the perpetrator of the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, a transgender female. Dwayne McDonald, deputy commissioner of the RCMP in British Columbia, said that Van Rootselaar was born a biological male and began to transition to a female about six years ago.
