School bus driver fired after students abandoned in Ottawa parking lot

More than three dozen students from Collège catholique Samuel-Genest were left stranded in a parking lot Friday by their school bus driver, according to the local school bus consortium.

Ontario is examining legislation that would allow special constables to arrest and ticket drug users. Today, Ottawa City Council has voted 17-7 to endorse that legislation. It would also expand present-day enforcement powers to OC Transpo special constables, who would be able to arrest and fine people using drugs on public transit. The motion was moved by Rideau-Vanier councillor Stéphanie Plante. She joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
