How federal public servants can win a classification grievance

For decades, some departments have been using classification to manage budgets rather than reflect what happens in the workplace. Arbitrary limits have been set lower departmentwide, while actual duties have not changed. Ontario is examining legislation that would allow special constables to arrest and ticket drug users. Today, Ottawa City Council has voted 17-7 to endorse that legislation. It would also expand present-day enforcement powers to OC Transpo special constables, who would be able to arrest and fine people using drugs on public transit. The motion was moved by Rideau-Vanier councillor Stéphanie Plante. She joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
