It was surreal for us to be back at St. Pius the next day, but that was the best way forward

In Chris Cobb's well-written piece describing lessons learned from the shooting at St. Pius X in 1975, he describes Principal Father Lunney as having made 'a mistake' in allowing classes to resume the day after the shooting without counsellors on-hand to help deal with the trauma. Cobb also writes "(Lunney) saw no reason the shooting should disrupt the school's agenda". This is an unfair mischaracterization of how the decision was made to reopen school the next day. Read More
The City of Ottawa says neither City Staff nor Ottawa Police have the necessary resources to manage ‘school streets’. Back in February of 2024, a pilot project was introduced for Trille Des Bois Elementary School in Vanier, located just a few blocks south of Beechwood Avenue. Alice Street, which is where the front of the school is located, is a pretty busy spot for vehicle traffic.
