On Friday, March 6, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and co-host Councillor Ariel Troster, Council Liaison for Women, Gender Equity and On Friday, March 6, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Councillor Ariel Troster, Council Liaison for Women, Gender Equity and 2SLGBTQ+ Affairs, will host the City of Ottawa’s annual International Women’s Day celebration at City Hall.

The event will feature opening remarks from Mayor Sutcliffe and Councillor Troster, followed by an engaging armchair discussion with guest speaker, the Honourable Rosalie Silberman Abella, CC, FRSC.

Justice Abella’s remarkable journey began in a Displaced Persons’ Camp in Stuttgart, Germany. She came to Canada as a young refugee and went on to become one of the most influential jurists in Canadian history. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2004, where she became the first Jewish woman and first refugee to serve on the Court, she chaired the Royal Commission on Equality in Employment, introducing the concept of employment equity into Canadian law and shaping how our country approaches fairness and inclusion.

Residents can watch the discussion live online at 8 am on Friday, March 6 at International Women’s Day | Rogers tv.This program will also air on Rogers tv (Cable 22) at 12 pm and 6 pm on Sunday, March 8.
