The Toronto man who drove from Alberta to the small coastal community of D'Escousse, N.S., where he stole a boat last fall, told court officials he was on the run from organized crime and was headed for Morocco to seek asylum.

Ottawa Fire Services said in an after hours media release it responded to a fire on the 19th floor of a residential high rise at around 9:30 p.m., and that smoke and flames were visible through a balcony door when it arrived on scene.
