A year after the deployment of a new social assistance algorithm, a Radio-Canada investigation reveals a system that advocates say is failing. Promised as a tool to humanize Quebec’s welfare services, Project UNIR is instead being blamed for mounting errors, administrative failures and even human tragedy.

I am extremely saddened by the death of Peter Clark, the crossing guard hit while on duty in Barrhaven. I am also very angry as I feel that the removal of the speed enforcement camera near his location may have directly contributed to this tragedy. Contrary to what Doug Ford and his party have stated, research showed that speed enforcement cameras were effective in reducing the speed of traffic in school zones. I believe that drivers do reduce their speed when they know cameras are monitoring their actions. I hope that someone holds the provincial government partly responsible for this...
