City Wide Sports leagues are back for the spring season

March 27, 2026
Registrater for a City Wide Sports league before May 1.

That ball, racquet or those soccer shoes are probably waiting in the closet for winter to lose its grip. Well, give them a jumpstart by registering your team in one of our City Wide Sports leagues in beach volleyball, basketball, soccer or pickleball. Registration is open now until May 1.

Whether you’re reuniting last season’s lineup or starting fresh with a new group, now’s the opportunity to sign up and get ready for the season. It’sa great opportunity to gather and reconnect with family, friends and co-workers to stay active and have fun this summer.

How to create a team

If you’re organizing a team of players, you’ll register as the team contact in Register Ottawa. Contacts create the team, pay the full team fee up front and then share a team password so that invited players can join the roster. Everyone needs their own Register Ottawa account, and schedules are emailed about a week before the season begins.

How to join a team

Players can only join a team they’ve been invited to. Once the contact creates the team, they’ll give you the team's name and password so you can add yourself to the roster in Register Ottawa. There’s no fee to join through the system and players pay their captain directly.

What’s playing this season
  • Beach Volleyball: Evening leagues are offered at Mooney’s Bay Park, Britannia Park, and Petrie Island from late May to mid‑August. There are options for mixed teams, women’s teams and youth teams in formats of three players, four players and six players.
  • Basketball: Programs include a women’s recreational league at Dempsey Community Centre, along with spring sessions for girls and adult beginners at Pinecrest Public School and Mino Mikan. These programs take place on weekday evenings from late March through early fall.
  • Soccer: Options include a women’s league for players aged fifty and up at Ed Laverty Field, as well as spring programs for girls and adult beginners at Hillcrest High School.
  • Pickleball: A women’s recreational doubles league is offered at Pinecrest Park on Thursday evenings during the spring and early summer.

Additional teams may be accepted after the May 1 registration date if space allows. For questions regarding leagues, please email the City Wide Sports league team directly at cws-psm@ottawa.ca or call 613‑580‑2854.

An Ontario judge whittled 13 months off a 14-year sentence for a man who shot two people due to the Muslim shooter’s youth, racial discrimination he experienced growing up in Toronto, and harsh pretrial jail conditions. A jury in Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice convicted Yousaf Bilal Sheikh, 24, on two counts of attempted murder for shooting Mallory Walia and Ameen Jazei inside a white Porsche while he was in the front passenger seat on the evening of Nov. 29, 2022. “It is implicit in the jury’s verdict that Mr. Sheikh intended to kill two people, Mr. Jazei and Ms. Walia. In 2000, David Napier, a freelance journalist then based in Toronto, produced a long story about Indigenous residential schools. It appeared in the Anglican Journal, an “independent” newspaper of the Anglican Church with a large circulation (now about 38,000). The Journal’s editor, David Harris, recruited Napier at the suggestion of former Saturday Night magazine editor John Fraser to spend a year criss-crossing the country to find out what had transpired in residential schools and tell the stories of any survivors and staff who would speak with him. Napier’s groundbreaking story...
