Ottawa Now - Should a bike-sharing program be brought back to life in Canada's Capital?

April 13, 2026

A feasibility study is examining the possibility of bringing a bike-sharing system back to Canada’s Capital. It suggests that a public system could work in the National Capital Region, but City Staff is warning residents and councillors that it could cost up to $10 million to launch. Several bike-share programs have previously operated in Ottawa – including the Capital Bixi Bike Program and operations such as Right Bike. The last bike-share program ceased operations in 2018, eventually leading to new appeals from Capital Ward councillor Shawn Menard to explore a potential revival. He joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
