The building that once housed Yangtze Restaurant in Ottawa’s Chinatown neighbourhood remains empty, as the property owner continues to search high and low for a new tenant. Yangtze permanently shuttered its doors in 2024 and the building has been dead-silent ever since. It comes as the Somerset Chinatown BIA issues an urgent call, with the neighbourhood in desperate need of an anchor business to host big events. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne has tabled the 2026 spring economic update. The fiscal update showed a smaller than projected budget deficit of $66.9 billion for the fiscal year. However, revenue projections have increased compared to the 2025 budget presented last fall, meaning the government has decided to spend more money.
