Council passes 'bubble bylaw' after fraught debate on legal risks

In a 20 to 4 vote, Ottawa city council has passed a controversial "bubble bylaw" that will restrict protest near hospitals, schools and places of worship.
The Carney government plans to make legislative changes to allow law enforcement to search and seize Canadians’ mail. The proposed legislative change is buried in the 2026 spring economic update.
