A Toronto man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of his former partner, Julia MacIsaac.

The clearing last week of an encampment in an area south of Ottawa's Bayview LRT station is being flagged as a worrying symptom of the city's homelessness crisis.
