Ottawa Now - Heroic 5-year-old Border Collie Poodle saves Greely couple from scary house fire

May 8, 2026

Jennifer Filip and her husband live in Greely with their 5-year-old Border Collie Poodle mix. And while music fans know Shady as Eminem’s alter-ego, this canine has turned into a household hero. At around 12:30 Monday morning, the couple was sound asleep as their bungalow caught fire. The blaze started in their shed – located right next to the house – and it spread to the house within a matter of minutes. But thanks to Shady’s loud barking, the couple woke up and made it out just in time. Jennifer joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
