Global Affairs data shows disproportionate cuts to staff based overseas

May 20, 2026
Canada's foreign service cuts are disproportionately affecting positions based abroad over those headquartered in Ottawa, according to figures obtained by The Canadian Press. The data show cuts to more than 10 per cent of Global Affairs staff posted abroad, a rate that is three times the cut to staff who only work in Canada.
