The fight between separatists and federalists in Alberta appears to be coming to a head with an anticipated vote this October on whether the province remains in Canada.

The movement has seen its popularity grow among some Albertans. But how did we get to this point?

Journalist Tyler Dawson, author of a new book called The Republic of Alberta: An Idea That Won’t Go Away joins the show to discuss the history of the movement, what has led to this latest push for independence, and what lessons federalists should take in trying to win a victory for unity in October.
