When the new NHL season begins in October, Hockey Night In Canada will live on. However, the Saturday night program has officially played its final shift on Channel 8. In a joint statement between Rogers Sportsnet and the CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster will no longer carry NHL games on Saturday nights, ending a tradition that has stood for 75 years. Back in 2013, a sub-licensing agreement between the two sides extended the Canadian programming staple by another 12 years, but that was not renewed ahead of a brand-new broadcasting agreement between Rogers and the league.
