Convoy protest leader Tamara Lich had to obtain permission from her parole officer to attend an official Independence Day event at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Ottawa. She's serving a conditional sentence after being convicted of mischief in October 2025.

The City is Ottawa is pushing to preserve the property at 575 Island Park Cres. as its owner, the Government of Ethiopia, seeks demolition. The Ethiopian government has said the property has faced decades of neglect and is now in a state of disrepair. The house is also part of a community push to obtain heritage status for the entire area.
