A drought in 2025 contributed to Newfoundland and Labrador's current wildfire challenge, according to Memorial University of Newfoundland biogeography professor Carissa Brown. Environmental conditions and long-term weather forecasting point to well above normal wildfire risk for most of the province.
The first storm hit St. Catharines on July 21, then another poured rain down on the city from July 27 to 28. The city received a brief reprieve before more rain fell on Aug. 2.

Major League Soccer has launched an investigation into antisemitism and discrimination during a match in Montreal on Saturday night. The New England Revolution said its forward, Dor Turgeman, was subject to “antisemitic and discriminatory abuse” from CF Montréal fans during the teams’ game at Stade Saputo.
