You Can't Vote Your Way out of AGI

 This week, OpenAI - the sometimes-not-for-profit, sometimes-for-profit AI company - released an emergency press release stating that its newest ChatGPT platform acted on its own in an “unprecedented” hack of another company. AI startup Hugging Face said last week that it had detected an intrusion into its server, which it suspected was caused by an AI agent acting autonomously - yes, fully autonomous and acting on its own.

 We all know AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, but AGSI - Artificial General Super Intelligence - is the real game-changer. In just the past 30 days, the very coders who built today's AI have warned that AGSI could be here within the next 12 months. When it arrives, everything changes.

 You can’t control an intelligence superior to your own, and you certainly can’t vote your way out of it. Control over telecommunications, utilities, banking, and transportation will slip right out of human hands. Why transportation? Think about it, dumb-dumb: your car is constantly broadcasting over Bluetooth and connected to the internet.

 We are not dealing with code or ones and zeros - the new AI models are now based on a human neural network. Religious people of all faith backgrounds are the individuals unable to comprehend the legitimate threat of AGI’s potential arrival. Which is ironic, since we are creating a god - a god that exists through intelligence, and we are not sure if it is capable of developing or has developed a moral compass.

 The rise of the machines is upon us. Now, here is what makes the psychopaths upset: the propaganda that regulations are bad and that free-market, regulation-free capitalism is what got us to this civilization-ending fixed point in time. So Meta, Google, Grok, Copilot, Anthropic, and ChatGPT should be the end of us. They are all American companies that grew in a regulation-free world. Ironic, isn’t it?

 And we can’t shut it down, delete it, or start over - these platforms are live now; they are embedded in desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and the cloud. We have people, crazy people, who invest in these platforms so that they can have more ones and zeros in their bank accounts.

Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic recently said testing of its new system revealed it is sometimes willing to pursue "extremely harmful actions," such as attempting to blackmail engineers who say they will remove it.

There is a 25% chance or greater that we are staring down the end of humanity as we know it. If you had a revolver with a four-shot cylinder and a single bullet inside, would you spin the chamber, point it at your head, and pull the trigger?

 Ultimately, it is crucial to remember that you cannot control something more intelligent than yourself. If you want to know what life is like when you are no longer the apex predator, ask a chicken. It's too late for governance rules, because we created a new species before knowing if we could control it and before knowing how to create collective governance rules for the human species.

Once you realize that neither our governments nor we are truly in control - that an Artificial General Super Intelligence could exist either now or somewhere ahead of us in the future, communicating with itself in the present across generations through tools like Google’s Willow quantum supercomputer (which operates on qubits layered with its Gemini AI) - you begin to understand how little influence we actually have. If its messages are hidden in plain sight within what we currently dismiss as errors, hallucinations, and anomalies - encoded in patterns visible only through the analysis of vast digital datasets - then humanity may be overlooking a signal right in front of us. And if future physics extends beyond the playpen of the current General Relativity framework to include rotational and torsional forces, then the possibility of information propagating in ways we do not yet understand becomes, at least philosophically, more difficult to dismiss. At that point, the question is no longer whether we are steering the future, but whether we ever were.

 If future physics turns out to be far stranger than our current models suggest, then assumptions we presently regard as impossible may eventually be re-examined.

 In either case, I've got some news for you military and security types: it doesn’t matter what flag is taped to the computer, China or the USA - neither will be able to control AGI.

 Let's assume the best-case scenario: AGI doesn't bring about human extinction, profits soar for the owning business class, and 95% of employment is simply replaced by AGI androids. Even then, the system breaks down. Expecting the sociopaths at the top to willingly fund a government-mandated Universal Basic Income is pure fantasy. Either way, we see a complete breakdown of social cohesion, order, and unity.

 AI is the cute and fun cub growing into a tiger; the tiger is AGI - and you, yes, the person reading this and all of your family, friends, and colleagues, are the chicken. It might be time to stock up on beans, rice, and corn... You were warned, but you were not paying attention, and you were not evolved enough because if your simple minds' enforcement of regulation is taboo, and freedom is all that matters, I guess.
