Gun licence applications have surged in the Toronto area since 2016

The number of people in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area applying for their firearms licences has increased significantly in the last decade, most notably in Peel region. It’s not clear what exactly is behind the increase, though it appears — at least in part — to be linked to growing interest in shooting sports.

A new poll suggests incumbent Olivia Chow continues to lead the Toronto mayoral race, while newcomer and former cabinet minister Chris Alexander has debuted with a 10 per cent share of support.
