Residential school counselling pause disrupts care for N.W.T. clients, leaves providers in limbo

Many in the N.W.T. get counselling through an Indigenous Services Canada program that offers therapy for residential school survivors and their families, the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program. Even though federal approval to renew funding for the program came in March, patients and therapists in the program have spent weeks in limbo as renewals and new intakes for counselling offered through the program were put on hold in late May.
A Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) study released Monday states that one in 10 emergency room doctors are exiting the profession altogether as a result of burnout.
