The cost of data breaches to Canadian businesses has reached a record high of more than $7 million on average, according to a new report from IBM.

Extreme winds in June caused the most insured loss of any event recorded in the province — $240 million — followed by the northern wildfires last summer. Higher losses can lead to higher premiums, and Canada should take more preventative measures, an expert says.
