Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Wed. August 5th, 2026

August 5, 2026

Lloyd Robertson, one of the most recognizable news broadcasters in Canadian history, has died. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening at the age of 92. His legacy in broadcasting spanned more than six decades, starting in 1952 at a local radio station in Stratford. In 1984, Lloyd took over as the CTV National News Chief Anchor, a role that he didn’t relinquish until 2011. We check in with CTV News Atlantic special correspondent Steve Murphy, who has been one of Atlantic Canada’s legendary news voices. But first, it’s time to talk some LRT. We are starting to gather a bigger picture of the LRT West Extension, and the damage that was done during the Canada Day downpour. OC Transpo says it could delay a full opening until 2027, and they aren’t ruling out having to replace sections of the track. We gather instant reaction from Laura Shantz, a board member with Ottawa Transit Riders. Then, River Ward councillor Riley Brockington offers his two cents on the subject.
