Crime is up in Nova Scotia, but crime severity is down: Statistics Canada

The crime rate, which tracks the volume of crime per capita regardless of severity, increased by one per cent in Nova Scotia last year. Stark increases in minor crimes — including shoplifting and low-level assault — contributed to the rising rate.
Charles Rousseau says he’s always believed in Quebec independence but it won’t be his top priority at the ballot box come Oct. 5, when the province chooses its next government.
