Ottawa’s Mayor is standing firm that he will get the Ontario government to follow through on its commitment to take over costs and responsibility for Ottawa’s LRT. It was part of Mark Sutcliffe's re-election promise, as he also vowed to reduce the cost of adult monthly transit passes by more than $40 – something that could be paid for in part by the uploading of costs to Queen’s Park. Appearing on CFRA’s Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron, Sutcliffe believes that lightening the cost of a regular pass would convince more drivers to take the leap of faith and make the switch.

Activist lawyers are aiming to leverage a recent court ruling to dramatically increase income assistance levels for homeless welfare recipients in Nova Scotia who live only in tents, trailers or their cars. Dalhousie Legal Aid Service has prepared a guide encouraging the homeless to apply for expanded benefits after the court ruled that a Halifax tent dweller was eligible for enhanced income assistance.
