Ottawa Now - Mayor Sutcliffe stands firm that he can convince Ontario to follow through on its LRT commitments to Ottawa

August 17, 2026

Ottawa’s Mayor is standing firm that he will get the Ontario government to follow through on its commitment to take over costs and responsibility for Ottawa’s LRT. It was part of Mark Sutcliffe's re-election promise, as he also vowed to reduce the cost of adult monthly transit passes by more than $40 – something that could be paid for in part by the uploading of costs to Queen’s Park. Appearing on CFRA’s Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron, Sutcliffe believes that lightening the cost of a regular pass would convince more drivers to take the leap of faith and make the switch.
