Ottawa Now - Ottawa's transit plans receive approval from City Council, but some maintain reservations about the upcoming September grind

July 17, 2026

Ottawa’s nearly $30 million RTO transit plans received approval during Wednesday’s marathon City Council meeting. That includes beefing up bus service and adding Express routes so people can commute easier from hubs in Barrhaven, Kanata, Orleans, and South Keys. These Express routes are also tasked with getting DND employees to their campuses in an efficient matter. OC Transpo GM Rick Leary wants to make sure that the service is ready for the surge of commuters in September. And when asked about the growing stench of public doubt, he remained confident that commuters will come around to the idea of taking transit once the improvements are visible. Orleans-South Navan councillor Catherine Kitts ultimately supported the city’s plan, but has serious reservations about the strategy and the RTO growing pains. She joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
