As AI booms, Canadian musicians face ‘existential struggle’

Edmonton-born rapper Cadence Weapon says he recently discovered 129 of his songs were used in datasets to train AI music generators without his consent. He’s one of many. The Canadian music industry is asking the federal government to establish rules requiring AI companies to compensate the songwriters and musicians whose work helps power their systems.
