The true cost of a Toronto to Quebec high-speed train
September 2, 2026
An internal document obtained by The Globe and Mail shows that the full cost of a high-speed rail line from Toronto to Quebec City is estimated to be about $150-billion once four decades of operating and maintenance expenses are included – a figure that is well above the range regularly cited by federal officials. The Globe's deputy Ottawa bureau chief Bill Curry explains why the figure is much higher than federal officials say.
Maureen Basnicki wants Canadians to redefine the day and celebrate service men and women including those who supported the victims in the aftermath of the terrorist attack.
