The latest unemployment numbers from Statistics Canada are in, and here is what they are telling us. The previously red-hot labour market is no longer hot, as it stalled out to end the Summer with a loss of 42,000 jobs in August. As a whole, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.4 percent last month. Prior to this rough patch, the labour market saw 181,000 jobs added from April through July. British Columbia’s contentious experiment decriminalizing fentanyl, cocaine and other hard drugs was hailed by provincial health leaders as a “vital” means of keeping people from dying from drug overdoses.
