On Sept. 11, 2001, thousands of unexpected guests arrived in Gander, N.L. and nearby towns when terrorist attacks shut down airspace over North America. For The National, CBC’s David Common revisits the community’s extraordinary response on the day ‘the plane people’ arrived and the enduring bonds that remain 25 years later.
Statistics Canada says the response rate for this year's census of the population was 98.4 per cent, one of the highest ever recorded.
