This is the type of humorous commercial the Liberals should have tried in the last election. It cuts to the point and eludes to a well known rumor here in Ottawa without actually saying it.
Humor defeats all attack ads. Too bad it took a radio station to actually make it happen.

As a communications professional, I hate political attack ads. There is nothing lower. You can point out the deficiencies of a candidate without attacking someone personally. During the 2007 provincial election, the Green Party of Ontario used humour to make its points. A big reason the NDP did so well in the 2011 federal election is because of the humorous nature of their advertising campaign. Only the least creative of communicators resort to negative tactics like attack ads.
In a letter I wrote to the Globe & Mail in 2011, I point out the problems with attack ads. You can read it on Unpublished Ottawa at: http://bit.ly/112ABWz.
