NCC reiterates its position on the Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway corridor

July 17, 2013

In the wake of Ottawa City Council's decision today to proceed with the Richmond Underground Western LRT route, the NCC issued the following statement. Mayor Watson's response is below (PDF file).

Dear Canadians and Ottawa-area residents,

Notwithstanding today’s decision by Ottawa City Council of the Richmond underground as the preferred corridor for the light rail, the decision as whether to build or not on federal lands in this corridor will remain with the National Capital Commission Board of Directors.

Two key conditions will inform any future NCC decision on the use of the Parkway lands for the western light rail project (as identified in the motion unanimously adopted by the Board at its June 28 meeting): unimpeded continuous access to the corridor lands and the shoreline of the Ottawa River as well as a minimal visual impact on the corridor landscape quality and its experience by users.
