NDP urges UN to reiterate its opposition to applying religious discrimination to refugees

December 20, 2014

This letter was written by NDP critic for Foreign Affairs Paul Dewar (Ottawa Centre).

The Conservative plan to apply religious discrimination to the selection of Syrian refugees for resettlement in Canada stands against UN policies that say “such discrimination undermines the protection and needs-based approach to resettlement”.

In a letter to the head of the UN refugee agency, NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar (Ottawa Centre) asks the organization to reiterate the importance of non-discrimination in the consideration of refugee applications.
