TONIGHT on UnpublishedTV: Proroguing Parliament

August 31, 2020

The show begins at 8 pm. Please vote on our poll question on this issue at: http://unpublished.vote//issue/960/proroguing-parliament#.X02AqGPd8dg.link

It’s time to hit the reset button according to the Prime Minister. Whether it will save his government is still to be seen.

Parliament has been prorogued until late September. The WE Scandal has dragged down the image and support of the Liberals and it has shown Finance Minister Bill Morneau the door. Chrystia Freeland has now been placed into the Finance portfolio with a Cabinet Shuffle expected before September 23rd when the Liberals will hold a Throne Speech and Confidence vote. If they lose that, we’re heading to the polls. An ethics investigation remains in place into the Prime Minister’s conduct into the WE Scandal.

In the past, both Conservative and Liberal Prime Ministers have used the procedure to shut down Parliament - to end political investigations.

TONIGHT's Special Guests:
  • Dr. Lori Turnbull, Director of the School of Public Administration and an Associate Professor of Political Science at Dalhousie University
  • Tim McSorley, National Coordinator of International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group; He also served as coordinator for the Voices-Voix Coalition, defending the right to dissent and protecting democratic rights in Canada
Our poll question this week is on Unpublished.vote: Should the act of proroguing Parliament be eliminated? Head on over to Unpublished.Vote to cast your vote and email your MP and then watch our live panel discussion
