Ontario Legislature elects first female Speaker ahead of Throne Speech

The Ontario Legislature has chosen its first-ever female Speaker ahead of Tuesday’s Throne Speech, in which Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government is set to lay out its agenda to address U.S. tariffs after his party won a third majority earlier this year.Monday marked the first day back in the legislature for MPPs after the Feb. 27 election, and they selected Donna Skelly, the PC member for the Hamilton riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook, as their new Speaker in a secret ballot.
