Alberta teachers to challenge Danielle Smith’s government in court over notwithstanding clause

Alberta teachers say they’re taking Premier Danielle Smith’s government to court for overriding their Charter rights to end their strike, while some members of her caucus say public outrage toward them is escalating.
Jason Schilling, head of the Alberta Teachers’ Association, announced Thursday the union has filed an application asking for a judge to immediately pause the law in full or in part until a full constitutional challenge is heard.
The BC General Employees Union says dairy milk testers in the province have started job action.The union says it represents dairy production technicians employed by Lactanet, and they began a strike on Tuesday following 20 months of contract talks.

A deal reached a minute before thousands of Alberta health workers were set to strike last weekend has been approved, their union says.The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees says in a news release that more than 16,000 nursing care members, which includes licensed practical nurses and health-care aides, have ratified a new collective agreement.
