Pop quiz, everyone! If you were a student in today’s Ontario high school, how much is attendance worth to you? Better yet, if you weren’t attending class, do you know how much that could cost you down the line? The answer: A lot more than yesterday. That’s because Ontario’s high-schoolers will soon be graded on their attendance records, as well as their overall participation in the classroom. We dig deeper with Rebecca Greaves, an Educational Consultant and CEO of The Parent Advocate. They are a leading educational consulting firm based in Toronto. Meantime, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is responding to new data from the City of Ottawa, which shows that speeding has increased in the months following the speed camera purge. I’m curious why the NCC closes several parkways and calls it “Bike Days”. I live near Queen Elizabeth Drive, and notice that even when the roadway is closed to cars, the majority of cyclists still use the pathway. This is uncomfortable, if not downright dangerous, for the many pedestrians who use the pathway. But when I suggested to the NCC that they might put up signs to at least encourage cyclists to use the open road, they did not think that would be appropriate. So why call it “Bike Days”? Read More
