Smiths Falls opts out of province's BYOB program, at least for now

Smiths Falls, Ont., is officially opting out of a bring-your-own-alcohol program announced by the province in March after the town's council voted Monday not to amend its booze bylaw.
This past June, Canadian resident return trips from the U.S. equalled 1.7 million, an increase of 3.2 per cent from the same month in 2025.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he will change provincial regulations if needed after learning that an immigrant living illegally in Canada for decades has been ruled eligible for social assistance benefits from Ontario.
