Ottawa – The launch of a process for public feedback on the proposed redevelopment of the Château Laurier was announced today at the City’s Planning Committee.
The City has received a Site Plan Control application for the development and that information is now publicly available at ottawa.ca/chateaulaurier. Members of the public have 28 days to review the project and submit feedback, including through an online form and via email at chateaulaurier@ottawa.ca.
The proposal will be refined by City staff following their review and public feedback. Owing to the local and national importance of the Château Laurier, a special heritage working group, comprised of nationally respected heritage professionals and a representative from Heritage Ottawa, has been established to provide advice to the applicant, the City, and the National Capital Commission.
There will be additional opportunities to provide feedback before the project comes before Council, including when it is considered by the Committee of Adjustment, Built Heritage Sub-Committee and Planning Committee later this year. The City will also organize a community session for information and comments before these committees review the proposal.
Prior to the Château Laurier announcement, Planning Committee today approved zoning that will impact the future ofArmstrong Street, which runs parallel to Wellington Street West in the Hintonburg neighbourhood. The change will allow for development of local-serving small businesses along portions of the street and in the block to the south, between Armstrong Street and Wellington Street West.
The Committee also approved an Official Plan Amendment and zoning that will allow for construction of a two-storey mixed-use building on the site of the Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre. Facing 255 Kanata Avenue, the development emphasizes pedestrian access and quality urban design.
Reports for these Committee-approved items will go to City Council on Wednesday, February 22.

La Ville souhaite recevoir des commentaires sur le réaménagement du Château Laurier
Ottawa – Le lancement d’un processus de rétroaction du public sur le projet de réaménagement du Château Laurier a été annoncé aujourd'hui, lors de la réunion du Comité de l’urbanisme de la Ville.
La Ville a reçu une demande d’approbation du plan d’implantation visant l'aménagement, et cette information est maintenant publiquement disponible sur ottawa.ca/planchateau. Les membres du public ont 28 jours pour étudier le projet et soumettre leurs commentaires, en remplissant un formulaire en ligne ou en envoyant un courriel à chateaulaurier@Ottawa.ca.
Après avoir examiné la proposition, le personnel de la Ville l'affinera en tenant compte des commentaires du public. En raison de l’importance locale et nationale du Château Laurier, un groupe de travail spécial sur le patrimoine, composé de professionnels du patrimoine respectés à l’échelle nationale et d'un représentant de Patrimoine Ottawa, a été établi afin de prodiguer des conseils au requérant, à la Ville et à la Commission de la capitale nationale.
Il y aura d'autres occasions de fournir des commentaires avant que le projet ne soit présenté au Conseil, y compris lorsque le Comité de dérogation, le Sous-comité du patrimoine bâti et le Comité de l'urbanisme l'examineront plus tard cette année. La Ville organisera également une séance communautaire afin de fournir des informations et d'obtenir des commentaires avant que ces comités n'examinent la proposition.
Avant l’annonce concernant le Château Laurier, le Comité de l'urbanisme a approuvé aujourd'hui un zonage qui influera sur l’avenir de la rue Armstrong, qui est parallèle à la rue Wellington Ouest dans le quartier de Hintonburg. Ce changement permettra la création de petites entreprises de service local le long de certains segments de la rue et dans le pâté de maisons vers le sud, entre la rue Armstrong et la rue Wellington Ouest.
Le Comité a également approuvé une modification au Plan officiel et un zonage qui permettra la construction d’un bâtiment polyvalent de deux étages sur le site du Centre commercial Kanata Centrum. Faisant face au 255, avenue Kanata, l'aménagement met l’accent sur l'accès pour les piétons et la qualité du design urbain.
Les rapports sur ces points approuvés par le Comité seront présentés au Conseil municipal le mercredi 22 février.
