Elizabeth May responds to human rights issues in Hong Kong

In response to the ongoing human rights issues in Hong Kong over the last year and half and counting, the Torontonian HongKongers Action Group, together with a number of Canadian civic groups had drafted a joint statement regarding sanctioning of Chinese and Hong Kong officials who had been contributing to the erosion of freedom of speech and expression, as well as human rights in Hong Kong. 

We urge the Government of Canada to offer a “Safe Harbour Program” with an expedited process to grant protection and permanent residency status to Hongkongers at risk. 

We are asking influential liked-minded individuals to sign their names to show support on this. As a party leadership candidate, I feel that you might want to take this opportunity to show our fellow members, as well as our current and potential supporters that we stand with the global values of safeguarding human rights.
