Mr. Prime Minister We Are Not Laughing

March 26, 2015

I believe Question Period in the House of Commons is a time for serious discussions about important issues. Our Prime Minister seems to think differently.

There is a time and a place for humour. When the Prime Minister of Canada made a joke in response to Mr. Mulcair’s question about the legitimacy of Canada’s plan to extend the military mission against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, he shocked, disappointed and angered many Canadians. Mr. Mulcair pointed out that Canada should at least inform the United Nation’s before we act.  Mr. Harper joked. We have seen the government side of the House of Commons completely ignore a question by giving an unrelated answer, we have several examples when the answer given by the government side was factually incorrect, and now we have them laughing off important serious issues. I won’t be able to wipe the smirk off my face the next time I am in the polling booth. He who laughs last, laughs best.
