I'm still chaffing from losing Alfredsson. My comment on Eliot Friedman's analysis of how the Senators bungled the Daniel Alfredsson affair...

No, it shouldn't have. Some players require a more personal 1-on-1 approach. Your much beloved long-time captain, future Hall of Famer and hopefully senior executive post-playing career, requires more respect.'This is how we negotiate' is not an excuse.

I don't think Detroit has the goaltending to go the distance. The Senators do. With Ryan, we now have a premier power forward. Leadership may slip a bit with the loss of Alfredsson but this team has guts. It essentially won the Calder Cup three years ago. But, what we miss is that one player who defines the team. The player who is the team's 'soul': http://bit.ly/158IdL1.

With Alfredsson and Ryan, the Senators become real Cup contenders. Without both, we're only a playoff team.
