Retribution Is Priceless

April 17, 2015

The NHL has made a big mistake, in my opinion, in not suspending Montreal Canadiens defensemen P.K. Subban. Now that it's clear Mark Stone has been seriously injured by Subban's slash, not suspending the Habs defensemen will undoubtedly lead to the Senators seeking retribution. Sens coach Dave Cameron basically said as much in his post game press conference.

While Subban continues to dance around singing 'Look at me! Look at me!" No matter of distraction can prevent the Sens from figuring out that the Habs are a shadow of themselves without their star goaltender, Carey Price. Last year the Habs drive for the Cup came to an abrupt halt when Price was injured. If the retribution Cameron seeks is an eye for an eye, then we could see the Habs best player become a target in this series.

It's unfortunate it has come to this after only one game, but you can't take out a team's best player like Subban did last night with his slash to Stone's wrist, without suffering consequences. Hockey has a history of an eye-for-an-eye retribution. If the NHL wants to prevent this kind of old school violence from becoming common practice, it better review its hasty decision not to suspend PK Subban further.

In my opinion, Subban should get an additional 2-games for this infraction. Enough to send a message that you can't target star players, but not enough for it to seriously hurt Montreal in this series. Otherwise, who knows what's going to happen? I'm just saying...
