Organized crime groups targeting police data across Canada, report says

The RCMP-led Criminal Intelligence Service Canada is sounding the alarm about organized crime groups across the country seeking to infiltrate police databases and corrupt civil servants.

Ontario is examining legislation that would allow special constables to arrest and ticket drug users. Today, Ottawa City Council has voted 17-7 to endorse that legislation. It would also expand present-day enforcement powers to OC Transpo special constables, who would be able to arrest and fine people using drugs on public transit. The motion was moved by Rideau-Vanier councillor Stéphanie Plante. She joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
