Canadians who are vacationing and living in parts of Mexico have been urgently ordered to shelter in place. This warning goes double for anyone who is currently visiting Puerto Vallarta, a popular tourist destination in the country. It follows the demise of a major Mexican drug cartel leader, who was reportedly killed in a government operation just days ago. And now, a wave of violence has engulfed the area. The Israeli ambassador to Canada called the country “one of the centres of antisemitism globally” during a visit to a Thornhill, Ont., synagogue that was shot at last week.
While Ambassador Iddo Moed noticed “a rising trend in antisemitism” following his arrival in Canada in August 2023, it was after the October 7 terror attacks on Israel that a “dramatic spike” occurred, he said.
