Ottawa Now - The next stage of Ottawa's LRT is ready for a test run

March 5, 2026

The Eastern extension of Ottawa’s LRT has hit a key milestone, and is now one step closer to its long-awaited grand opening. It has achieved what OC Transpo calls ‘substantial completion’. However, we don’t know exactly when the trial runs will begin, as Line 1 is still operating at a reduced capacity due to January’s spalling issues. Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney, who also serves on the city's Transit Committee, joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
