The building that once housed Yangtze Restaurant in Ottawa’s Chinatown neighbourhood remains empty, as the property owner continues to search high and low for a new tenant. Yangtze permanently shuttered its doors in 2024 and the building has been dead-silent ever since. It comes as the Somerset Chinatown BIA issues an urgent call, with the neighbourhood in desperate need of an anchor business to host big events. An Ontario judge has sentenced a trucker to 30 months in prison for killing former Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul and severely injuring several other people, including her infant son. Sukhwinder Sidhu pleaded guilty this past winter to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in the crash that killed Paul, 31, and injured her infant son in Melancthon Township, Ont., on Aug. 22, 2023.
